Goats in Bathrooms, Kitchens and Jumping on Chairs!

This all sounds like a crazy made up story doesn’t it?

Yes, well…

I thought so too.

You see it came out of the little mouth of an almost three year old as we had breakfast together.

I was feeding her little sister and all of a sudden Miss Elena (my oldest daycare baby at almost 3) told me: “I thaw a goat yetherday!”

Here’s how the rest of the conversation went…

Me:  “Really?”

Elena: “Yeth!  A BEEEEG goat!”

Elena:  “It had an owie on it’sth leg.”

Elena:  “Momma had to fix it!” (Her Mom is a Veterinarian)

Me:  “Where did you see the goat?”

Elena:  “In the bath.”

{insert questioning…rather doubtful look}

Me:  “Do you mean in the barn?”

Elena:  “Noooaaahhhh…in the bath!”

{As she gave a look saying – ‘how stupid are you?’}

Me:  “Who’s house was the goat at?”

Elena:  “At MY Bob’s house.”

Me:  (Nodding my head in interest) – “Ooohhh”

Elena, looking up to the right (you can tell she’s thinking):  “It jumped on the chairs…and the couch…and the kitchen.”

OK…now I was thoroughly confused…

Me:  “You’re just making that up!  Are you just telling stories?”

Elena:  “Noooooooaaahhh!  Nicole tellsh sthtories!”

Now I laugh out loud, convinced that this adorable little girl is pulling my leg and blaming her sister!

We change the subject and go on with our meal and morning of playing…and dancing…and marching.

And then their Momma comes for lunch.

As I laugh telling her about little Miss Elena and her stories, Jen just smiles at me shaking her head in agreement and proceeds to tell me that the entire story is true!

They went to visit their friend Bob yesterday who keeps his baby goats in his bathroom.  And for playtime they get to go in the living room where they jump on his furniture!  However, when they get big enough to jump on the kitchen cupboard then they have to go outside!

Seriously!

OK…at this point I’ve closed my mouth (as it was gaping open at the story) and grabbed Elena and apologized to this sweet little girl!  Here I was accusing her of making up a story and she was just telling me a story of a day in the life of a Vet’s daughter!

We had a good laugh over the whole ordeal and boy did I learn my lesson!

I know Jen sees all kinds of habitats for animals – but I didn’t really think someone would have a house full of goats!

Well, there you go…

Never doubt an almost three year old.

Oh, and by the way…

I think the reason she said her sister tells stories (at almost 1 year old):  I talk to Nicole when she’s babbling and I ask her:  “Are you telling me stories?” – in that goofy little baby voice that us adults do.  (Have you ever wondered if the baby looks back up at you with the thought “Who is this idiot?”?)

Ahhhh…well…

A day in the life at Patty’s House!

I hope you had as much fun as I did today!

  3. I’m glad you got to find out she was telling the truth. What I love about kids is that they don’t judge, they just tell you about what they’ve seen or done 🙂
