Let’s Try That Again!

I’d like to apologize to the woman who I barked at today…and the people I barked at yesterday…there’s no excuse. Yes I was tired and have overdone it getting ready for this Estate Sale, but it’s no excuse. I hope you accepted my apology today as you seemed wary, which I would have been too! I’m not usually a crank-butt!

Let’s start that New Year’s Resolution of ‘pledging to look for the best in people and bring you a little happiness’ over again. So thankful that tomorrow is a new day!

I Pledge to Work on Being the Best Me

So today brought an interesting experience.

After working like a crazy woman to meet a goal for my #Plexus plant based supplement biz, I made a run to the grocery store. I ran into 3 women at the grocery store…

(Now mind you…yesterday was a rough day that included a migraine out of control, vomiting, dehydration and an ER visit…so I’m not looking my best as I’m still not quite a 100% today.)

Woman #1 said: “You look bedraggled (is that a word?)!” (ps I don’t know this woman very well.)

Woman #2 said: “Hi!” and we exchanged “Happy New Year’s!” This woman and I have known each other for a while now in fact she used to work for me but we don’t get to see each other as often as I’d like.

Woman #3 said: “Hi! How are you?” and we exchanged stories about having no plans for New Year’s Eve…I told her the first woman’s comments as I jokingly fluffed up my hair and we laughed it off. This woman and I have been good friends for many years.

When I got home, I found that Woman #2 had sent me a message which read: “Hi Patty, I was in a crabby mood in the grocery store, but after seeing your beautiful smile, it brightened my spirit, thank you! Have a Happy New Year!!!”

It made me sit back and think about how I view other people: what is my perspective on the world? Do I see people at their worst? Or do I see the beauty in others and let it warm me? Do I laugh with others or focus on our woes?

I like to think I see the best in others, but not always…and sometimes it’s really easy to focus on the bad things happening and forget there is still good things happening too.

So for this last day of 2018, I pledge to work on being the best me that I can be…and in that process may I see the best in you and be a source of happiness in your life.

Cheers to 2019!

Sadness & Gratitude for Extraordinary People

This Christmas season finds me with feelings of both sadness and gratitude this year. For even though the season is filled with the joy that Christ’s birth brings, I selfishly mourn for the loss of loved ones this year…

My sadness comes from the loss of my very special, sweet father-in-law whose body succumbed to Alzheimer’s this summer…and from the loss of 2 wonderful friends this fall…and from the impending loss of another dear friend, given only days to live.

All three were extraordinary people…giving of themselves to help others: Read more

The Nursing Home Funnies

One night we were visiting with Frank.

He’s the cutest little, hunched over, Jimmy Durante nose character you ever did see.  He’s got a twinkle in his eye and a sly grin when you say hello.

That night he regaled us with stories from when he was a miner.

The man is lucky to be alive.

He incurred injuries when a blast went wrong and he wound up underneath a pile of rock. Three months in the hospital, he got out and completed his recovery.  His doctors told him he shouldn’t work anymore because of his extensive injuries, but he looked them in the eye and said “I have a wife and 3 kids”.  And off he went to work.

At one point in our conversation Frank matter-of-factly, with a nod at the end, said…

“my birthday’s coming up,

I’ll be a hundred,

then that’s enough.”

Have a great day!

ps…the names of my new friends have been changed to protect their identity. 😉

In the last post, I told you about what a fun girl’s weekend I had!

This, is the rest of the story:

During our girls weekend, my friend from Utah had to work.  She works for Delta and needed to train in some people from Alaska Airlines, so I had some time to myself.

What did I do?

I shopped!
