My Favorite Things…

Yes, I am singing Julie Andrews version…”These are a few of my favorite things…”.

I just loved that movie.

For a multitude of reasons, really.  Here’s just a few…

#1…my sister Carol brought me to see it when it was released and it was the first movie I’d ever gone to in a theater!

#2…the singing….oh the singing…to be so carefree!  Of course, I was really young and the levity of the story didn’t sink in, I was too enthralled by the singing!

#3…the scenery…mansions and mountains and cobblestone streets!

It’s all so lovely.  Julie Andrews is lovely.  They made life feel lovely.

Which brings me to a few of MY favorite things (besides the movie, that is):

Summertime, sunshine, flowers…and my favorite place in the garden, with a glass of lemonade and a good book.  A welcome break after pulling weeds and digging in the dirt…also a favorite thing!

In the vintage category…

Speaking of movies, check out my vintage movie camera – isn’t it just great?  Oh and yes…I love the movie The Music Man…and records, lots and lots of records!

The vintage Betty Crocker Cookie cookbook!  It reminds me of my Mom’s.

I LOVE my wreath that Alex made for me out of vintage cookbook pages, and my vintage “wrap” holder.

Look at these FABULOUS pieces!  The antique typewriter is from my Mom and Dad’s home.  The antique toy typewriter was a must have from the antique store and just look at the vintage projector…love, love, love!

This wonderful sheet music for “Bushel and a Peck” that Sam and her friend Angel bought me.  I sang this to all my girls when they were little…and once in a while I still do.  Depending on their mood I either get an eye roll, or a smile and they join in.

This is one of my favorite pieces of art.  It is a painting depicting the home I grew up in and my Grandpa painted it.  And yes, our house really was bright red!

Inspirational favorites…

This plaque with the bible verse “Be Still and Know That I Am” has been a constant and gentle reminder of God’s love and power during times of turmoil in my life.

This statue of Mary and baby Jesus.  Because my sister gave it to me after my Dad’s funeral, because it was one of the many statues of Mary that my parents collected, and because it represents a mother’s love.

Favorite signs…

This one makes me feel warm and fuzzy…my oldest daughter Alex gave it to me.  It reads:  “Mom.  To the world you might just be one person.  But to one person you might just be the world.”

IMG_0205

This new “@” sign I picked up for $6.99 at one of my favorite stores…TJ Maxx!  It seemed like something I needed to have to celebrate my new blog!  And isn’t it wonderful arranged here with the peace. sign?  Get it…@ peace?  And it’s metal…you know me and metal!

IMG_0218

Then there’s the “&” sign I used here in our office to add our “engagement/family photo” and Miss Gabi’s photo for a family arrangement.  Oh – and look at the wonderful sweater Gabi is wearing…it was knit by my Aunt Mick (she’s another of my favorites…people that is!)

IMG_0214

Oh and one of my recent finds scavenging…this “TRUE TEMPER” sign…I couldn’t resist adding it to my “winter/Valentine’s Day” decor….a little tongue in cheek humor…it makes me smile and mentally go “heh, heh, heh”.

Oh and one more thing…

My Keurig coffeemaker…and Green Mountain K-cups!  Ok, that’s two things…but oh how I love my coffee in the morning!  Sitting with a hot cup of coffee and my blog makes me go…ahhhhhhhh.  (And my husband gave me the Keurig for Mother’s Day last year…God I love that man!)

Have a lovely Sunday everyone.

Grab a cup of coffee, have an ahhhhhh moment or two, count your blessings, and wander your house looking at your favorite things.  If you don’t have them out, find them and display them.  They’ll bring you a smile, sense of comfort, “a visual hug” every time you see them!
