Give a little whistle, Whoo-e-oo!

Things I have learned…

To trust my heart…About 3 months ago a friend of mine brought me her grandfather’s coat and asked if it would sell in our shop…I looked at it and fell in love, feeling that somehow it reminded me of my Dad.  When I did my walk down memory lane a few days ago, I found a picture of my brother and I hugging my Dad when he got home from work…and he was wearing the exact same coat.  (Well he had the same type of coat, not the exact same coat…just to clarify!)  I never had brought the coat to the store…I couldn’t seem to part with it and now I know why.  It’ll be in my possession from now on…I’ve even worn it a few times…what a fun memory to have. It was Crazy, It was Wild, It was Fun!!!

What a crazy weekend!  And yes it was wild and it was fun!

Not in the way some of you may think…no crazy parties or anything. Read more

A Walk Down Memory Lane

I had a walk down memory lane today…

I was looking for a poem that my dear friend Marlene had written for me when my Mom died (8 years ago today).  Unfortunately I didn’t find the poem, but I found lots of other fun items…and maybe that was God’s plan.

Instead of the sad moment I would have had reading the poem, I had lots of smiles, laughs and a few giggles looking through old photos. Read more

My Favorite Things…

Yes, I am singing Julie Andrews version…”These are a few of my favorite things…”.

I just loved that movie.

For a multitude of reasons, really.  Here’s just a few…

#1…my sister Carol brought me to see it when it was released and it was the first movie I’d ever gone to in a theater!

#2…the singing….oh the singing…to be so carefree!  Of course, I was really young and the levity of the story didn’t sink in, I was too enthralled by the singing!

#3…the scenery…mansions and mountains and cobblestone streets!

It’s all so lovely.  Julie Andrews is lovely.  They made life feel lovely.

Which brings me to a few of MY favorite things (besides the movie, that is): Read more

Lord, give me strength…

I’m having a bit of a weak moment this morning, and when I have these moments, “Lord, give me strength” is my go to prayer.

You see, the past year has brought lots of these “pause and prayer” moments.  If we include not just immediate family, but add the mother and father in-law…we’ve had a total of 6 surgeries (sinus, elbow, major vascular bypass, ankle, and 2 cataracts), an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, 2 graduations & parties (high school and college), piriformis syndrome and shoulder issues causing me to be out of work for 5 months, 2 daughters moving (one into a new apartment and one into college), the college shuffle (painting and redoing the girls bedrooms…the youngest now gets the biggest room!).  Add in a winter of PTSD therapy last year (Thank you God for that!), and it’s been quite a year.
