Lord, give me strength…

I’m having a bit of a weak moment this morning, and when I have these moments, “Lord, give me strength” is my go to prayer.

You see, the past year has brought lots of these “pause and prayer” moments.  If we include not just immediate family, but add the mother and father in-law…we’ve had a total of 6 surgeries (sinus, elbow, major vascular bypass, ankle, and 2 cataracts), an Alzheimer’s diagnosis, 2 graduations & parties (high school and college), piriformis syndrome and shoulder issues causing me to be out of work for 5 months, 2 daughters moving (one into a new apartment and one into college), the college shuffle (painting and redoing the girls bedrooms…the youngest now gets the biggest room!).  Add in a winter of PTSD therapy last year (Thank you God for that!), and it’s been quite a year. A good kind of exhausted…

I’m exhausted today.

The kind of exhausted that comes from a crazy couple of days searching out the newest and greatest (at affordable prices) clothing and accessories at a buying show for our store.

The kind of exhausted where your brain just goes on hold and doesn’t want to think, and body begs for the couch…and Jessica Fletcher (Murder, She Wrote) reruns…and flavored Keurig coffee.

The kind of exhausted where you look out the window and see the temperature at -30 and want to pull up that blanket a little closer under your chin.

And yet… Read more

The best laid plans….

I had great plans for writing a blog every day.  And then life got in the way this week.

I think I even talked about it in my last post…ah, yes – “Tomorrow we’ll talk more about my Christmas decoration addiction”.  See?  I did have great plans.  Well a few tomorrows later, here I am!!!

Let’s talk Christmas decorations…

I LOVE CHRISTMAS!  I love everything about the season!  Finding the perfect present, the gift wrapping, the baking, the music, the decorating – oh the decorating.

Hello, my name is Patty and I’m a Christmas-decoration-aholic.

My husband yelled at me tonight

My husband yelled at me tonight.

OK, in all honesty I yelled at myself for him.

We made a quick trip to Duluth to get Gabi (the 12 yr old) a new hamster as hers had passed away the day before New Year’s Day.  Yes it was very sad, she was far too young to die, our beautiful little Zoe (who you see in the picture).  Alas we’ve moved on (mind you Zoe is now taking up residence in a check box turned casket in our freezer until spring thaws the ground for a proper burial…yes I said I have a dead hamster in my freezer).  But I digress…

After picking up said new hamster at Petco, we passed Michael’s and before what did my wandering eyes appear but a beautiful poinsettia topiary.  Here’s how the conversation went: Read more

From whence we came…

I love this little area on my wall…

The vintage kitchen tools somehow remind me of my Mom…she didn’t own these particular ones, and only had a few similar, but somehow they remind me of her.  I think it’s the red handles.  She loved red and I love vintage.  Needless to say I had to have these.

The top two pictures are of my Dad as a little boy (on the left), and my Mom as a little girl (on the right).  I love these photos and the innocence they represent.  Simple pictures of a little boy going fishing and a little girl playing with her dollies.  Beautiful snapshots of them enjoying the things they loved – and continued to love through adulthood!  Dad loved to fish and Mom loved babies.  The stories I could tell… Read more
