It Had Been A Day…and then Lori arrived…

OK, I don’t tend to complain much, but today has been a day…

It actually started yesterday – there are just some moments when your children know which buttons to push…and sometimes they don’t realize their doing it – but they sure push them and it’s a moment of anger that puts me through the roof.

I’m guessing that most of you can relate…

I’d go into the “Ommmm” pose and start chanting if I could…

Happy thoughts…Ommmmm…beautiful flowers…Ommmmm…laughing babies…Ommmmm…Happy little trees (oh wait, that’s Bob Ross – the painter on PBS).

None of it worked…

Until…

Lori came over.

Have I told you about my dear friend, soul sister, I swear…sister from another mother – best friend in the world?

I love her.

She’s the friend who calls me if I don’t call her for a few days…

She’s the “Lori – I NEED a Lori moment” type of friend who will come right over, because more than likely she needs a Patty moment too.

So we did.

A glass of wine and some Dark Chocolate Acai Blueberries on the deck and two hours later we both felt better.

Aaahhhhhhhhh.

It’s amazing what a little friend time can do.

Do I still want to have a few choice words with that daughter of mine?  Yup.

But they’ll come out much better now thank you.

Lori, you are my person…

Just like Meredith is Christine’s person on Grey’s Anatomy.

Speaking of which…did you see last night’s Grey’s?

AAAAAAAACK!

Seriously?

I’m so glad that at least they made sure to show that Meredith and Baby Bailey are ok…but Richard?

Seriously?

Ugh.

Maybe my first mistake this morning was watching Grey’s (I had dvr’d it)…

Hmmm.

Note to self…stop watching season finale’s in the morning!

I hope you’ve had a great day…and if not…

I hope you have a person…like Lori…

Blessings!

Thank you Pinterest Mobile for the photo.

I have a Nosy Neighbor!

At least that’s what Patty M calls herself!

We chatted across the alley today as she raked leaves that kept blowing into my yard and I pulled the remnants of last years flowers.

She’s such a character…

We chatted about another neighbor who is more reserved and that’s when Patty said:  “She’s not like me – I’m just plain nosy!”

Patty’s husband is quite a character too…

As we painted the house a few years ago, George would sit there in his chair and “supervise”.

I think I made him extremely nervous as I was perched up on our ladder to reach the eaves.  Never so nervous that he couldn’t give me a hard time though!

This is what life’s all about…good neighbors, good friends, a little gentle razzing across the alley and more than a few laughs.

Have a blessed day!

Boys are so different…

I smiled to myself today as I drove Gabi and my two nephews down to their Orthodontist appointments.

The boys were bantering back and forth and I looked at Gabi and said “I have four older brothers…I remember this.”

And the bantering continued…

A little while later she looked at me and said “Did your brothers do this?”

Let’s just say I chuckled.

I have three girls.

And can I say now…boys are so different!

OK, besides the obvious…

The way they interact…

Fun little digs at each other – that they enjoy!

My girls would be sniping at each other or I’d hear “Mommmm!”

Or there’d be tears…

Boys may have way more energy…

But girls have way more moods…

You say potato, I say potato.

Little boys…teenage girls…

Toss a coin.

I LOVE girls (my own, my nieces, and the babies),

But I have to admit to having a special tender spot for my nephews.

I’m happy to play trucks and cheer them on at track, basketball, swimming, baseball and whatever sports/activities they do.

But they really are different.

The way they think, the way they act, their general mannerisms.

This reminds me of a story my sister-in-law Jody once told:  She was helping a cousin’s little boy (who was 3) as he needed to go to the bathroom.

(Keep in mind that she too has three girls.)

She proceeded to start pulling the little guys pants down and he yelled “NOOOOooo!  There’s a hole in there for that!”

I couldn’t help but giggle (of course I was a young teenager)…now it still brings a smile thinking of this poor little guy teaching this mother of three girls the ways of boys!

I do remember the fun stories of my nephews – my sister’s boys…

From splashing with them in the mud puddles at Grandma’s…

To their cleaning up in the creek (after getting all muddy in the puddles while Blueberry picking)…and a pair of underwear floating away…

To one of them trying to get around Grandma…pushing on her butt and saying “Grandma – move your fat!”

God bless little children – they can get away with saying anything!

And Grandma just laughed.

Then there was the moment I went for a walk with Kristofer and he told me how he thought I was awesome.  I loved that moment and will remember it always.

Those two nephews are all grown up…one owning his own store, and the other going to medical school.

{Sigh}

The two nephews I had with me today have another brother (who’s like a best buddy to Gabi) and a younger sister.

God bless that youngest sister – I can relate as I’m the youngest of 6 – with my sister being the oldest and then the four boys!

What a fun family Tim’s brother & sister-in-law have…

And I treasure these moments when I get to spend a little extra time with them!

Especially when I get to learn new words…

Like…Wangster – a Wanna-be Gangster…

And then there were the moments I yelled to the back of the car “What on earth are you two talking about back there?”

I swear they have their own language…

I must seem like the dotty old aunt…

Thank heavens they’re old enough to go to the bathroom on their own.

{smile}

Have a good evening!

I Lost My Funny Bone

Nooooooooo!!!

I thought I lost my funny bone!  Really!

And then Saturday night with the family happened…

Remember that card game  – Spicy Uno – I told you about in my last post? Read more

A Weekend of Blessings…

What a fun weekend it has been!

My oldest daughter and her boyfriend came for a visit, picking up my middle daughter along the way – so our household was once again full!

Tim taught Alex how to make Potica on Saturday…I peeked in at the process off and on, smiling at how cute these two are together – what a special moment they’ll remember for a lifetime.

Tim has been baking Potica for our Young Life Sweet Spring Auction for the past few years. He donates 10 loaves which sell for $35 each – what a wonderful talent to share! …And they go quickly – he’s known for his fantastic Potica’s. It’s his Grandma Mary’s recipe which he tweeked a little! 🙂

And while they were making Potica…I took Tom (Alex’s boyfriend) shopping for a Mother’s Day present for his Mom. Of course, he helped me pick out a high school graduation present for his sister at the same time, so we covered all our bases and had a nice time together!

We had Tim’s parents and Grandma Shepel over for dinner that evening…and get this…Alex and Tom made dinner! A scrumptious breaded pork cutlet meal with an Eggplant Casserole…YUMMMMMY!

We finished off our Saturday with a round of Spicy Uno – thanks to Samantha for teaching us the rules…however, Tim and I decided we may be too old for this game!

This morning Tim made everyone French Toast and Bacon and then loaded up Tom and Alex’s truck (ok his parents truck…) with two Adirondack Chairs. Yes, those are the chairs you see the two of them sitting in (their Christmas present). Beautiful aren’t they? Tim built them! (This picture was taken at Christmas…most of our snow is gone now…Yayyyy Spring!)

And then they drove off…

Tom, Alex and Sam…

Back to work and back to school.

(sigh)

And it was back to just Tim, Gabi and I.

(sigh)

The house is quiet again.

(sigh)

Until next time…

(sigh)

But for now, I’m one happy and thankful Mom…
