My New Fabulous, Unbelievably Fantastic Upcycled Kitchen Island!

I am so excited to show you my new upcycled kitchen island!!!
It’s the same island that we’ve always had but I decided it needed a facelift.
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my vintage cabinets.
Metal…painted white…I wouldn’t trade them for anything.
But I just didn’t like how my wood island looked with them. Here’s the before:
It wasn’t awful, but I really wanted it to flow with the cabinets.
So I painted the cabinet white.
Added some wonderful hardware that I picked up at Menard’s.
And, painted the base black (I repainted the metal cabinet base black too).
And then came the countertop!
My incredibly patient, handy-dandy husband carried it out to the workshop for me…taped off the counter, and sat back while I used silver spray paint on the trim of the counter.
After it had dried I pulled off the tape.
By the way I have now crowned Tim the King of the Painter’s Tape because of how incredibly well the lines turned out! Just look at these lines:
The next morning I reused/reversed the tape so I could paint the countertop.
OK, remember the King of the Painter’s Tape?
Yes, well…he’s married to the Dunce of the Painter’s Tape.
Put the tall cone cap on me and sit me in the corner.
Don’t reuse Painter’s Tape.
My paint seeped under the tape.
Not horribly, but enough so the lines aren’t perfect (yes, spoken like a true OCD’er).
A little gentle scraping and touch up by spraying a little spray paint into it’s cap and using a small paint brush to touch up the paint…and it’s beautiful.
Notice I did not say perfect? Aren’t you proud of me? 🙂
Here is my fabulous new island with my old cabinets…
I LOVE IT!!!!!
Hmmmmm….what will be my next project?
I’m thinking the stairs leading to the upstairs…
It’s covered in really ugly carpeting right now and I saw this GREAT idea using a carpet runner on the stairs…
Thinking, thinking….
(husband’s dreading…)

Here are the products I used on the counter…I highly recommend them!
This came out great!! I love it too.

Thanks Meg. My friend who’s an interior designer helped me pick out the color. I actually never would have chosen this color without her, but she knew how much I love my vintage! I worked with her for a few years – what an interesting profession! How are you?

Good, hanging in there! Work is very challenging at the moment, struggling with energy, but find I am happier working than sitting at home. The pain is there wherever I am, so….
I’m thinking I’d like to use that green somewhere in our renovations, we are starting soon as I recover from the next round of surgery.
Something to look forward too 🙂
