My…Best…Project…Ever!!!

I first saw pieces of furniture covered in vintage afghans at an antique store in Minneapolis, MN called Hunt and Gather Antiques.

(If you haven’t been there…GO!  It’s wonderful! They have absolutely EVERYTHING you could want and more!)

The afghan covered furniture pieces were fantastic!  I knew I had to try it! Read more

A Kitchen Christmas

Welcome to my kitchen!

Remember when I told you my whole house changes over for Christmas?

Yes, even the kitchen.

There are a couple special pieces in my kitchen…

The “Our Father” sampler that you see is one that my Mom made when she was young.  I absolutely love it and had Tim frame it with wood from an old door we found!   Read more

An ‘Ode to Mom & Dad’

My parents were known for their outside Christmas decorations.  They’d have people come from all over and stop on the highway to take pictures.  We used to laugh because they kept expanding them…I remember telling them ‘you can’t decorate their whole 40 acres!’.  They’d light up every tree and they lit up the entire house. Then they started adding the big plastic Christmas decorations outside.  And adding…and adding…and adding.

Cookies, Hershey’s and Crapola!

So it’s been an interesting day, to say the least.

It started at 4:30 this morning when my daughter’s alarm went off upstairs.  At about the same time I was trying to reconcile which account I’d taken $40 from…I’d picked up some items for a friend who was picking the pieces up from me today and paying me back.  But where to put it?  Ugh.

I crawled out of bed…grumbling, of course.  Made myself a cup of tea, grabbed the bag of Cranberry Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies (I’d picked up at the Farmer’s Market), and sat down with a good book.  Soon I realized there just weren’t enough chocolate chips in the cookies for my taste.  A hunting I will go (or went).  One Hershey bar later…breaking it into rows…put the cookie on top…and…WALAA!  Much better. A Grease Monkey, Family Heirlooms, and Barb Kellogg Photography

The Grease Monkey is me…yes I shop at the St Louis County Mall (aka the dump) and yes, I grab greasy treasures!  I have a little too much fun cleaning up these treasures…thank you Dawn dish soap, or as my husband puts it “If it’s good enough to clean ducks, it’s good enough for this”.  (Obviously referring to the oil spills, the affected waterfowl, and the Dawn dish soap commercials.)  I had GREAT fun cleaning up the pulley!

And yes, my husband thinks I’m nuts.  Oh ye of little faith…but then he sees the finished product and says “Well, that’s cool!” 🙂

In the featured LOVE picture, the first two items were dump (oops Mall) finds.  The V is a folding tape measure that was Tim’s Grandpa’s.  And the two clamps I picked up at my friend’s garage sale…I needed an E…what can I say?

And here’s a collage of the rest of the wall!  I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it! Read more
