April Fool’s Day – Ely, Minnesota Style!

Once again, our town’s Chamber of Commerce does it again…

Ely has become known as one of the best April Fool’s Day joke tellers in the country!

The past few years have brought some classics:

Say No to Canada!  Trying to convince us that Canada is attempting to buy Ely from the U.S.A. and move it above the border.

IDQBWCAW – where Dairy Queen was trying to buy the naming rights for the Boundary Waters Canoe Area.

A bid for the 2016 Summer Olympics where the town was going to drain one of it’s nearby lakes to use for an in ground stadium to host events.  And of course, fishing would be a new event!

And this year, Say no to Social Media!  Ely officials asking townspeople to look up from their electronics for 5 minutes, maybe talk to someone face to face vs. on facebook…appreciate nature – step outside and breathe in some fresh air!  Here’s the article in the Huffington Post…
